Welcome to Fight Like A Fangirl, a place for NFL fans with and without chronic illness, to draw strength and inspiration from the game we love through stories about the players, coaches, and unforgettable moments that keep us coming back every season.
I’ve been a devoted San Francisco 49ers fan since I was a teenager who turned on the television one afternoon, fell head over heels for Joe Montana's baby-blue eyes and movie-star smile, and ended up falling in love with the game itself. Before long, this sports-averse girly girl was accessorizing her mini skirt and heels with a 49ers helmet necklace.
When I developed POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) after a head injury, the 49ers became more than just the team I rooted for. Their resilience, perseverance, and determination to win became my inspiration and motivation to keep moving forward, one play at a time, and to never give up.
In Fight Like A Fangirl, you'll find discussions about the biggest stories from around the NFL, the players and coaches who inspire us on and off the field, unforgettable moments from the week, and reflections on what football can teach us about resilience, perseverance, and facing life's toughest challenges. I’ll also share my own journey living with POTS and Vestibular Migraines, and how NFL football brings me back to life every Fall.
Whether you’re navigating life with chronic illness or dealing with another adversity, a football fan who wants to learn more about your favorite players, or you just stopped by out of curiosity, I hope you’ll find something here that makes you smile, makes you think, or inspires you to keep fighting.
